TopOCR Personal Reader

The TopOCR Personal Reader is a folding HD document camera that stands slightly over twelve inches tall and weighs a little over a pound. It is completely silent in operation and it takes up about as much desk space as a coffee cup. Despite its small size, it can scan a full A4 or Letter sized document in less than a second! The document camera has a built-in wide beam LED light with an easy to locate ON/OFF switch for low light environments.

Because of its advanced electronic, mechanical and optical design, no manual adjustments are ever needed by the TopOCR Document Camera! All of the document camera's internal camera controls are automatically adjusted to the ambient lighting by the document camera's built-in image procesing chip. This takes all the guesswork out of using a camera for document image scanning! Instead, just flip open the TopOCR Document Camera, plug it into a USB 2.0 port on your PC, align your document camera and your document on the image positioning pad and then you're all ready to scan an image!

The TopOCR Document Camera is made of tough, durable materials, so you can easily fold it and toss it in your gym bag and take it with you without any worries, and since it's powered directly through a USB port, you also never have to worry about batteries or how to transfer images to your PC! The document camera has a simple 5 element fixed-focus glass lens that combines excellent sharpness with a large depth of field to provide better image quality than the average auto-focus document camera lens, and because it has no moving parts, it is also much more reliable than an auto-focus lens.

The TopOCR Personal Reader ships exclusively with TopOCR 50 in the included flash drive. TopOCR 50 has been proven to be the most accurate OCR software for document cameras with Neural Net Dewarping and multiple OCR engines!

Image Positioning Pad


The TopOCR Personal Reader also includes a flexible neoprene image positioning pad. The positioning pad has two sides, a dark side and a light side. We recommend using the light side. The light side also has outlines to mark the location of the placement of the document camera and document that are locatable by touch. Wrapping your TopOCR Document Camera inside the neoprene image positioning pad is also an ideal way to pack your document camera for safe transport.

For those who have difficulty reading printed material, TopOCR has a powerful multi-lingual Accessible OCR User Interface. It provides a simple, easy to learn Visually Accessible User Interface with simple keyboard commands.

Why not use a Digital Camera or Smartphone?

When used for document image reading, handheld digital cameras or smartphones will often show a characteristic motion-blur casued by a slight shaking of the camera while the camera's shutter is open. This effect is even more pronounced at lower shutter speeds required in low light settings. The TopOCR Document Camera's integrated camera stand with its weighted base adds mechanical stability to the camera to completely eliminate camera motion-blur. The integrated camera stand also guarantees that the camera is always perpendicular to the document to be read as well as at the correct height above the document. This approach completely eliminates image distortion, focus and document position issues.

This approach also allows you to use your hands for other things besides holding a camera! You can use your hands to hold documents flat for better image capture and they can be automatically cropped from the image along with the background.
